BLACKPINK's Jennie Outshines BTS's Jungkook in Seven Without Promotional Efforts
Months after its debut, BLACKPINK's Jennie continues to defy expectations with her track "One of the Girls," a collaboration with The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp. Originally released for The Idol without promotional efforts, the song has maintained its dominance on music platforms. Jennie, who recently launched her solo career with the label OA after parting ways with YG Entertainment, has achieved a notable milestone by surpassing BTS's Jungkook in the K-Pop soloist category on Shazam.
Despite the absence of extensive promotional campaigns, "One of the Girls" has become a viral sensation on platforms like TikTok and Reels, earning praise from the general public. With an impressive 2.03 million Shazams, the song has outperformed Jungkook and Latto's collaborative single "Seven" (2.01 million Shazams), securing its position as the most Shazamed song by a K-pop soloist in 2023.

The success of "One of the Girls" can be attributed to its expertly crafted slow-burning R&B, featuring ethereal and spacey elements. Instead of relying heavily on promotional strategies, the song leveraged the artists' existing popularity and exposure on TV shows. Despite minimal initial promotion, the track has gained momentum and continues to be streamed and appreciated by a wide audience.
Jennie's solo career has witnessed remarkable achievements, with an impressive 34.5 million listeners and over 1.2 billion streams on Spotify. Notably, she has become the first female K-pop soloist to reach this milestone without the release of a solo album. In this category, she has even surpassed BTS's Jungkook, who reportedly boasts a monthly Spotify listener count of 34.4 million.
Meanwhile, Jungkook, the youngest member of BTS, enlisted in South Korea's mandatory military service in December after the release of his solo album "GOLDEN." Participating in the soldier companion program for buddy enlistment alongside Jimin, both singers graduated after completing basic military service and proceeded to undergo additional military training.
